Basketball Future Star Tournament (BFS TOURNAMENT)

1. BASKETBALL FUTURE STAR TOURNAMENT (BFS TOURNAMENT)

The Basketball Future Star Tournament (BFS TOURNAMENT) is an invitation-based tournament open to teams from schools, community groups, and clubs that wish to participate in accordance with the rules and eligibility criteria set forth by the organizers.

Teams will compete in the following age-group divisions for both boys and girls:

  • 12 & Under (12U)
  • 14 & Under (14U)
  • 16 & Under (16U)
  • 18 & Under (18U)

By participating in the Basketball Future Star, all teams, officials, players, and representatives agree to comply with all BFS TOURNAMENT rules, regulations, policies, and standard practices.

 

2. TEAM REGISTRATION FEE

The team registration fee is USD 1,000.00 or THB 30,000 per team.

The BFS TOURNAMENT administration may issue an invoice to each registered Club, School, or Team, or payment may be made online via the official website or by Telegraphic Transfer (TT).

Full payment must be made as soon as possible to secure a placement in the selected division. Team entries will be accepted on a first-paid, first-confirmed basis, and once a division is full, no further registrations will be accepted.

 

3. BASKETBALL FUTURE STAR TOURNAMENT ADMINISTRATION

The Basketball Future Star (BFS) Tournament is administered by AR Consulting. The BFS Tournament Director (TD) has full authority over all matters related to rules and regulations, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.

All decisions made by the Tournament Director are final and binding.

4. BFS TOURNAMENT COMPETITION RULES

All matches shall be conducted in accordance with FIBA rules ,including the following modifications:

4.1 Competition Age Groups:

12 & Under Competition – Players born 2014 or later.

14 & Under Competition – Players born 2012 or later.

16 & Under Competition – Players born 2010 or later.

18 & Under Competition – Players born 2008 or later.

3.1.1 Under/Over Age Players

Younger players may participate in competition above their age group, provided team coaches are confident that the players concerned can cope with the increased physical and mental demands and have their parents’ consent.

(Note: Please refer to Rule 4 for further explanation and clarification on ‘age group’ and ’player eligibility’ matters)

4.2 Match Duration:

All Games are to be played as follows: All age group Boys & Girls: 4 quarters of 7-8 minutes running clock with stopped clock for time outs, free throws, and the final 2 min. of the last quarter. (if a game is within 20 points difference) A 24-second stop clock will be used for all games.

BFS TOURNAMENT 2026 will use the same format as AAU and the US Middle School & High School format

4.3 Mercy Rule:

From the 1st Edition of the BFS TOURNAMENT 2026, the competition will adopt a ‘Mercy Rule’ as follows: If a team in any age group gets to a 40-point lead, the score keeper will no longer display the score on the scoreboard. The final score will be recorded as the official score once a ‘Mercy Rule’ has been reached. Games will continue as normal, and the scorer will continue to score on the scoresheet. Once the Mercy Rule is in effect, teams will not be allowed to run any full-court presses.

4.4 Match Balls: (will be leather or synthetic leather – no rubber balls to be used)

Ball size 6: Boys 12&U / Girls 18&U / Girls 16&U / Girls 14&U / Girls 12&U

4.5 Time Outs:

4 x (30 sec) times out per game. Please see the above table

4.6 Team Colors/ Uniforms

4.6.1 All players from one team must wear the same color uniform. All players on the court should be identifiable by a number on BOTH the back and the front of their jerseys. A matching set of uniform BUT WITHOUT numbers on the front and back is not considered complete and will not be allowed. One player may reverse a uniform (where possible) to therefore become 00. Players with the same number will NOT be allowed to enter the court in the same game.

4.6.2 Opposing teams are NOT allowed to wear the same shirt color in a tournament match. In the event of a clash of colors, the away team must wear a bib, sash, or alternative uniform.

4.6.3 Players should wear basic basketball attire. Proper basketball shoes with no black soles, shorts without pockets, and no jewelry such as chains, metal bangles, or sharp rings shall be worn during play. All players’ fingernails should be trimmed.

4.6.4 All visible body piercings must be removed or taped before entry to the court for match play.

4.6.5 Protective or injury induced equipment, such as knee, wrist, finger, or hand braces or bands are allowed for players who have sustained injuries, but they must be worn in a protective and non-hazardous way that will not endanger any player/s on the court during match play. These may be inspected and approved by the referees in charge of the match.

4.7 Defense

All 12&U & 14&U matches are to be played with a half-court defense only. A warning is to be issued on the first violation. If an infringement occurs a second time, it will be called a technical foul on the coach, and 1 free throw is to be awarded to the opposing team and possession from the center line. (Note: This is the FIBA rule as of October 1, 2006)

All 16&U & 18&U matches are to be played with a man-to-man defense only. NO ZONE PRESS & NO ZONE DEFENCE is allowed, but full court man-to-man is allowed. A warning is to be issued on the first violation. If an infringement occurs a second time, it will be called a technical foul on the coach, and 1 free throw is to be awarded to the opposing team and possession from the center line. (Note: This is the FIBA rule as of October 1, 2006)

Note: The BFS TOURNAMENT Administrator will make the Referees aware of rule 3.7 and shall have a designated ‘Zone Buster Official’ at each venue.

4.8 ‘No Draw.’

Rule Drawn matches are not allowed in the BFS TOURNAMENT. ‘Over time’ will be played for a three-minute period with a running clock to be used with a stopped clock for time out, free throws, and the final 1 min. of the extra time in all age divisions until a result has been reached, with “No” time out for extra period.

4.9 ‘No Show’ Rule

‘No Show’ is defined as a team not turning up for a fixture at all, or less than 5 players on the court ready to start within 10 minutes of the scheduled starting time. Should a team be classified as a ‘no show’ for a fixture on the scheduled date, the game will be awarded to the opponents 20-0, and no Tournament points will be awarded to the team that failed to show.

4.9.1 Late start. If a team is late or has fewer than 5 players ready to commence the game on time, the game clock shall be started. After 10 minutes, if a team does not have the 5 players required to start the game, the game will be declared as a walkover. The game will be awarded to the opponents 20-0, and no Tournament points will be awarded to the team that failed to field a full team. The BFS TOURNAMENT Administrator will not be held responsible if a team arrives at the wrong venue. Teams are responsible for making sure they are totally aware of the venue location of their game

4.9.2 If a team decides to abandon the game for whatever reason, without the approval of the other team and/or the referee, it will be viewed as a ‘no show’ in terms of the result. Points may also be deducted depending on the circumstances. The BFS TOURNAMENT Administrator shall decide if the team shall be banned from any future competitions.

4.9.3 If the game is stopped by both Coaches/Team Managers and the Referees due to, but not limited to, emergency evacuation of the building, player fighting, referee being threatened Etc, and the 3rd quarter has commenced, then the result will stand. However, the whole game will be replayed at a later date/time, if the 2nd quarter has not finished, unless the BFS TOURNAMENT Director determines otherwise, or both Coaches/Team Managers determine otherwise.

4.10 Team Withdrawal from BFS TOURNAMENT

Competition: Should a team withdraw from the Tournament for any reason/or should a team be requested to leave the BFS TOURNAMENT due to disciplinary reasons or other, the following procedures will apply:

4.10.1 If the team concerned has NOT played each team already, all games will be classed as void.

4.10.2 Should a team leave/withdraw from the BFS TOURNAMENT, all forwarded payments made by that team will not be reimbursed.

4.10.3 If a coach/club has two teams in one division and wants to withdraw one team, this team must be the less successful of the two teams in the division (as judged by the BFS TOURNAMENT Director)

4.11 Scorekeeping

4.11.1 Any errors or mistakes in scorekeeping by the scorekeeper or timekeeping by the timekeeper involving the score, number of fouls, number of time-outs, or time consumed or omitted may be corrected by the officials at any time (but generally before any other play continues) or before the referee blows the final whistle.

4.11.2 Should the teams concerned have any doubts about the above mentioned, coaches should approach the officials before the final whistle. The BFS TOURNAMENT shall not entertain an appeal after the teams have left the courts.

4.11.3 A team given or receiving a ‘walkover’ will receive three tournament points and will have the score recorded as 20 – 0. The team giving a ‘walkover’ will receive no tournament points.

4.12 Wet Courts

Should the basketball floor become wet, a team may request that the referee stop play while the floor dries. Mops or old towels will be provided to mop the floor. Under no circumstances should the officials be asked to mop the floor.

 

5. TEAM AND PLAYER REGISTRATION

5.1 Number of Team Players

Each team may register up to 12 players.

5.1.1 Registered Team Officials and registered players in uniform are permitted to sit on the team bench; they are all bound by all rules related to the code of conduct.

5.1.2 All other people must sit in the designated spectator’s area.

5.1.3 Players are NOT allowed to play for multiple clubs/schools within the BFS TOURNAMENT in the same age group, but may do so if in different age groups.

5.2 Team Registration

5.2.1 Each team entered must send in a Player Registration Form at least a week before their first game is played, including full names and dates of birth.

5.2.2 Teams can add to the player registration form at any time up to the commencement of the Tournament, but may not use a player until he/she is registered.

5.2.3 All registered players are required to provide a copy of an identifying document that contains name, photograph, and date of birth e.g. photocopy ofa  passport, school ID, etc. Any players who do not submit a document are not permitted to play in the BFS TOURNAMENT.

5.2.4 Any player details kept by the BFS TOURNAMENT Administrator will not be shared with any other entity.

 

6. COMPETITION FORMAT

6.1 Teams in each division will usually compete in a round robin format to decide the age division winners, runners-up, and third-placed teams. However, this will be subject to the number of teams entered, and other formats will be used if deemed necessary by the Tournament Director.

6.2 Three points shall be awarded for a win, one point for a loss, and nil points for a forfeit.

6.3 A forfeiting team will receive no points, and the scores will be recorded as ‘20– 0’ to the other team.

6.4 Final table positions will be determined using the FIBA method for tournament positioning.

 

7. BFS TOURNAMENT COMPETITION PRIZES AND AWARDS

7.1 Individual Prize

U.S. college coaches and AR Basketball scouts will conduct seminars, clinics, and player evaluations during the Basketball Future Star Tournament (BFS TOURNAMENT). Talented players will be identified and evaluated for scholarship opportunities, including:

7.1.1 Scholarships to U.S. College Prep Summer Basketball Camps (Scholarship coverage ranging from 10% to 100%)

7.1.1.1 U.S. College Prep Summer Basketball Camp – Maryland
Duration: 3 weeks        Dates: July 2026

7.1.1.2 U.S. College Prep Summer Basketball Camp – Los Angeles
Duration: 12 days        Dates: August 2026

7.1.2   AR Consulting Fee Scholarships (Fee reductions ranging from 10% to 100%)

AR Consulting is a leading student-athlete development and placement organization, specializing in basketball scholarships for high schools, sports academies, and universities across Asia, Europe, the USA, and Canada.

7.2 Team Prize

7.2.1 Trophies will be awarded to the Champion, Runner-Up (2nd Place), and Third Place teams
in each age group. All players will receive a certificate of participation.

7.2.2 Invitation to U.S. Training Trips

The top three (3) teams from each age group will receive an invitation to participate in one of the following U.S. basketball development programs:

7.2.2.1 U.S. College Prep Summer Basketball Camp – Maryland
Duration: 3 weeks        Dates: July 2026

7.2.2.2 U.S. College Prep Summer Basketball Camp – Los Angeles
Duration: 12 days        Dates: August 2026

During each trip, participants will:

      • Train with U.S. college coaches
      • Compete in AAU tournaments
      • Visit U.S. colleges
      • Participate in sightseeing and cultural activities

An AR Consulting team member will accompany campers from Asia to the United States throughout the program.

 

8.  BFS TOURNAMENT COMPETITION REGULATIONS

8.1 By registering with the BFS TOURNAMENT, all participating teams/clubs/schools are to abide by all BFS TOURNAMENT rules, regulations, and code of conduct. All teams will be expected to sign a copy of our Codes of Conduct and return them before your team will be allowed to step onto the court.

8.2 The “HOME” team shall wear a light-colored uniform where possible.

 

9. COACH/TEAM MANAGER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

9.1 Before all games, the Coach/Team Manager must ensure that the ‘full’ names of all players, including the player number, are clearly written on the scoresheet prior to the start of play. This should be completed 5 minutes before the match commences so that the game can tip off on time. Table officials will check before the start of play, but it is the responsibility of the Team staff to ensure all details are correct and accurate. In the case of deliberately incorrect details being supplied, games may be classified as “walk-overs” regardless of the final score.

9.2 All coaches/team managers must adhere to the BFS TOURNAMENT Coaches’ Code of Conduct, and ensure that all players, parents, and school administrators fully understand the BFS TOURNAMENT Codes of Behavior, its objectives, rules, and penalties.

 

10. COMPETITION INFRINGEMENTS & PENALTIES

10.1 Teams shall always act in a sporting manner and should respect the officials’ decisions. If a team acts persistently and/or deliberately against the BFS TOURNAMENT Rules and Regulations, the BFS TOURNAMENT Director has the right to remove an offending team’s invitation/participation to any BFS TOURNAMENT competition, including removing them from all further games in the tournament immediately.

10.2 The BFS TOURNAMENT does not condone nor permit swearing at referees. Such incidents are considered unsporting and unacceptable, and the referees are instructed to disqualify players for such acts. This rule extends to players, officials, and spectators who are not on the court of play.

10.3 BFS TOURNAMENT officials and coaches are encouraged to inform the BFS Tournament Director of any player, coaches, or spectators who persistently breach the ‘BFS TOURNAMENT Codes of Conduct’. In such circumstances, the referees will complete an incident report. Should a referee feel the need to report a player, the player will be brought before the BFS TOURNAMENT Committee.

10.4 Any team playing an unregistered player will result in the game being awarded to the opposition 20 – 0. This is an automatic process without warning.

10.5 Any team playing an ineligible player will result in the game being awarded to the opposition 20 – 0. In addition, the infringing team will be deducted a further penalty of three points, and the incident will be forwarded to the BFS TOURNAMENT Committee.

10.6 A player who is ejected from a game (excluding 5 personal fouls) or receives an ejection foul may be required to face the BFS TOURNAMENT Committee before their next game. Coaches/Team Managers must report a player who was ejected from a game straight after the completion of any game where this happens.

10.7 Should a Coach be ejected during a game, the Coach may be allowed to coach the next game; however, should a Coach be thrown out twice in the Tournament, the Coach will be banned for the remainder of the Tournament.

10.8 Any team playing a suspended or an unregistered player will result in the game being awarded to the opposition 20 – 0. In addition, the infringing team may be deducted a further penalty of up to three points or higher if the BFS TOURNAMENT Director decides so.

 

11. APPEAL PROCESS

11.1 Any individual, referee, or team may file an appeal with the BFS TOURNAMENT Director related to incidents that occurred before, during, or after an BFS TOURNAMENT game.

11.2 Each appeal must contain full details of the alleged incidents and must conclude with a recommendation or request for disciplinary action. In addition, the following conditions and process applies:

11.2.1 The appeal must be filed with the BFS TOURNAMENT Director within 2 hours following the game.

11.2.2 Appeal must be accompanied by cash for $250.00 or ฿7,500 payable to BFS Account (14.2). The BFS TOURNAMENT Chair will decide the process required based on the relevant circumstances after consulting the BFS TOURNAMENT Committee. The $250.00 or ฿7,500 will be refunded if the appeal is upheld, and is not refundable if the protest is dismissed.

11.2.3 Following the receipt of the appeal, the game referees and all other team representatives will be invited to submit their views.

11.2.4 Views must be submitted to the Committee within 1 hour.

11.2.5 Disciplinary action may include, but will not be limited to, game bans for individual players, points deducted from teams, and/or team participation inthe  BFS TOURNAMENT being withdrawn.

 

12. BFS TOURNAMENT CODE OF CONDUCT

Generally, all Coaches and team officials shall be responsible for signing and returning the code of conduct of all players, supporters, and team officials. However, the following codes of conduct have been issued and should be circulated to the relevant persons respectively. – Coaches Code of Conduct – Players Code of Conduct -Spectators/Parents Code of Conduct

 

13. LIABILITY

13.1 All participants must be fully aware and agree that although a medically trained official is provided at all BFS TOURNAMENT games and many of our staff are first aid trained, any extra costs (including but not limited to the cost of attending ambulances) will be the sole responsibility of the attendees / participants.

13.2 All Coaches/Team Managers must be fully aware that the BFS TOURNAMENT provides no insurance coverage whatsoever for any players injured before, during, or after games.

13.3 All teams are advised to bring their own first aid kit to every game, as no medical tape will be provided other than when or if an injury occurs.

 

14. INDEMNITY

14.1 BFS TOURNAMENT Committee, its sponsors and supporters shall be indemnified against all actions, suits, proceedings, claims, demands, costs and expenses whatsoever which may be taken against it, in respect of death, injury, disability or damage in whatsoever nature which may be caused or suffered by reason of participation in the BFS TOURNAMENT.
